New lockdown restrictions have been issued with Birmingham as measures tighten amid a worrying rise in coronavirus cases.
During a chaotic and flexible afternoon, Birmingham’s chief of public health, Dr. Justin Varney, developed the rules and restrictions in an interview with BirminghamLive.
During the question and answer session with Dr. Varney, the health chief confirmed when the new rules will end, which include restrictions on home visits as well as other finer details.
The restrictions will be reviewed weekly, with new announcements every Friday, according to West Midlands Mayor Andy Street, who announced the new measures at a key briefing on September 11.
However, Dr Varney recommended waiting for the new restrictions to be in place “for at least two to three weeks” as the rate of Covid-19 cases continues to rise in Birmingham.
This is because the impact of the restrictions can only be assessed after a period of at least fifteen days, according to medical experts, with blockades in Leicester and Bolton lasting much longer.
It is believed that a sudden drop over a few days would not be enough to order the ban to be lifted, and officials take a similar approach to the travel corridor and analyze trends over a longer period of time.
The restrictions become law on September 11, but we recommend that you follow them NOW.
The reason the restriction is slightly delayed is to notify residents and employers of any changes that affect them, and because officials need time to implement regulations and clear up any outstanding issues.
