There is a significant police presence in Cardiff tonight following an incident in the city center.

A large number of police vehicles have been seen in the Welsh capital and the streets are closed.

Various witnesses have been describing what is happening, but so far there has been no word from the South Wales Police on the nature of the incident.

This is what we know so far about the incident.

What time did it start?

A witness claimed that there was an incident near the Central Bar in Windsor Place around 9.45pm

They said there were about 15 to 20 men fighting outside.

Queen Street has been cordoned off

“One group ran into Sainsbury’s chased by the other, one with a chair over his head. This was thrown and hit a parked car,” said the witness, who did not want to be identified.

It is not known if this was related to what happened in the vicinity of Queen Street.

There were ‘strong blows’

Several witnesses reported hearing loud explosions, such as fireworks, although some people thought they sounded like gunshots too.

Ryan, a 20-year-old from Fairwater, was at the Ernest Willows pub on City Road when police arrived.

He said, “We heard a waiter / waiter say they heard (sort of) fireworks.”

Witness Sophie Zermatten, 27, also said she heard a ‘loud bang’ that she also thought sounded like fireworks.

People were told to get out of a pub

One of the areas of the city closed by the police.

Ryan added that he was told to leave the bar he was in.

“We all had to leave immediately … once I left the pub on the street, it was blocked at the end by Newport Road.

“Outside the pub it was covered with police cars, vans and officers standing in the street. I asked an officer what had happened, but they said they couldn’t tell me. “

“The waiter told everyone they had to pack up and leave. I went out with my boyfriend and saw all the police cars.”

Has anyone been injured?

There are several rumors but there is no confirmed information.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a man attacked by police at the “upper end” of Queen Street, around the area where the Sainsbury’s store is located.

Master’s student Elizabeth Winter, 25, was taking a walk downtown when she saw a large police presence at the top of City Road.

She said: “There was a group of young people yelling at the police. There were about four or five officers screaming. I heard someone say that someone had been ‘bitten’, street slang for stabbing. “

Winter said the man who was thought to have possibly undergone the tase test was white, in his 20s, and heavily built.

Courtney added: “I asked a police officer if the victim was okay as I was concerned and the officer said they were in stable condition but could not reveal any other information about what happened.”
