Daniel James put aside his frustrations earlier in the season to score his first Premier League goal of the season for Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to give the winger an unusual start for visiting old Leeds United rivals.

Played on the right side of United’s attack, James had an impressive performance in the 6-2 win.

The Welshman went on to score the fifth goal against the team he infamously came close to joining in January last year.

Daniel James scored Man Utd’s fifth in Leeds 6-2 demolition at Old Trafford

After playing 46 times in all competitions in his first season at Old Trafford, the 23-year-old has been forced to wait for opportunities this time around.

The outing against Leeds was the first in the league since October and he certainly made the most of his opportunity.

And United legend Roy Keane felt that after scoring, a weight was lifted from the former Swansea City player, who ran down Marcelo Bielsa’s side unevenly.

Roy Keane praised Solskjaer’s treatment of James and felt he could see the relief on his face after scoring.

“He’s had a tough time. A tough time since coming to United,” Keane told Sky Sports. “I think he started his United career very, very well. He’s had a difficult few months. Once again, thanks to Ole. He probably thought this would be his kind of game: it will be open.

“I can always tell by a player’s face when a ball comes in. Again, he’s running forward, he’s kind and brave. Going to Manchester United was a great move for him.

“Look at her face [after scoring] and it meant a lot to the boy. And I am delighted for the child. Listen, playing for Manchester United is not as easy as everyone thinks, there is a lot of pressure. It was a great relief to him. “

Solskjaer praised James after the victory, but took aim at the officers who decided to hire him for the simulation after he fell under a challenge from Liam Cooper.

“He has shown time and again how he can improve our performance at times with his exceptional pace,” said Solskjaer.

“It’s not that he’s too worried about it, but my head hurts when he gets a yellow card when he should have had a penalty, it’s a foul and he’s almost been tagged as a jumper before.”
