Electoral College Votes
With the Electoral College controlling so much the outcome of this presidential battle, both Trump and Biden are, above all, fighting for seats in the College. With 538 electoral votes at stake, the presidential candidate needs 270 to steal the majority and thus win the general Electoral College vote.

What makes these states so powerful? It all comes down to the “winner takes all” system in every state (except Maine and Nebraska), the winning party claiming all electoral votes statewide. So, for example, if the majority of the people vote for the Democrats in Florida, the Democratic party will take all 29 electoral votes.
In the 2020 election, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, and Wisconsin are all crucial to the overall result, as they were states that only marginally voted for Trump in 2016 and thus aided him in his electoral college victory. .

Currently, Biden has a narrow lead over President Trump in five of the eight major breakout states. These states are Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Florida, Arizona, and Michigan. The state of Michigan is critical to Biden’s victory, as the state has large white suburbs, union members, and black voters, so a loss in Michigan would be detrimental to Biden’s chances for the presidency.
Currently, there is an average of 10 polls indicating that just over half of Americans intend to back Biden, while support for Trump lags behind by five or six points.
