Only 32 days before the US presidential election, Donald Trump has been taken to the hospital with Covid-19 and will be monitored there “for a few days,” the White House has said.
At 74, Trump is in the age category considered most vulnerable to the coronavirus, and about 80 percent of Covid-19 deaths in the US occur among people 65 and older.
Trump has also been reported to have high cholesterol and, at 110.7kg, he is considered obese for his height, which may also make him more vulnerable to the deadly virus.
Trump’s doctor, Sean Conley, has said the president and his wife Melania Trump are “fine right now” and are receiving treatment. Trump, who has shown symptoms, is being treated with a cocktail of Regeneron polyclonal antibodies. He’s also taking vitamin C and zinc, melatonin, and a daily aspirin, his doctor said.
Dr. Conley also suggested that Trump intends to continue to “carry out his duties” while he recovers, but since Trump is transferred to the hospital, and is expected to be in quarantine for at least the next two weeks, there are some tasks that must meet the commander-in-chief. The boss may not be able to act.
In that case, many of his duties are likely to go to Mike Pence, the vice president of the United States.
