And what about Christmas?
The five-day relaxation of the lockdown over Christmas has been scrapped due to concerns about an increase in cases. The Prime Minister announced on December 19 that a maximum of eight people from three households can mix on Christmas Day alone. The travel ban will also be temporarily lifted on December 25.
The emergency speech followed talks with the prime ministers of Wales, Northern Ireland and Micheal Gove, and England and Wales face similar restrictions over Christmas.
The meeting comes after scientists asked the government to review plans to allow households to mingle over Christmas, following a spike in coronavirus cases.
Before the meeting, he said: “I think there are reasons for us to analyze whether we tighten the flexibilities that were given more in terms of duration and number of people gathered.
“And I will consider the views of the other nations; if we can reach a four-nation agreement, I think it would be preferable.”
“If that is not possible, of course we will consider within the Scottish government what we believe is appropriate.”
Sturgeon added: “If you can avoid mingling with other homes during Christmas, especially indoors, do so.
“But if you think it’s essential to do so, and we’ve tried to be pragmatic in acknowledging that some people will, then cut back on your unnecessary contacts as much as possible between now and then.
Scotland deviated from the UK-wide coronavirus Christmas plan within 24 hours of its announcement.
If people feel it is “essential” to meet other people indoors, he said this should only be for one day and not overnight.
On November 26, the Scottish government set a limit of eight people over the age of 12 for Christmas gatherings. They also emphasized that homes must remain two meters apart while inside.
Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon also suggested that families give each other Christmas vouchers, for health and financial reasons, and warned that she will tighten Christmas restrictions on limits on Thursday.
As it stands, three households can meet indoors, outdoors, or in a place of worship at Christmas, as long as they are not meeting with each other and are not meeting in pubs, restaurants, and entertainment venues.
Hugs will be allowed, residents of the nursing home under 65 can visit family members, and Christmas religious services can be held.
Can I travel to Scotland after the blockade?
Under Scottish regulations, you should not travel between Scotland and the rest of the UK unless you have a reasonable excuse, such as for work, education or essential shopping.
These rules, which will be kept under review, mean that you cannot yet travel to Scotland for non-essential reasons now that the lockdown has ended in England.
Other exceptions include travel for medical care, child care or joint parenting, and a full list can be found on the Scottish government website.
