The Hammers’ point man suffered a hamstring injury in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City and scans have shown it to be worse than feared.

David Moyes is now prepared to be without one of his most influential players for a long period, beginning with Saturday’s trip to Premier League champions Liverpool.

talkSPORT understands he faces more than four weeks on the sidelines, although Moyes remains hopeful that he will return sooner.

In his press conference before the Anfield clash, the Hammers boss said: “We don’t think it’s that bad, but he’s out of this game, that’s for sure.”

The versatile 30-year-old has been in outstanding form as a center forward since returning from soccer in June, after a 100-day hiatus, scoring 11 goals in 13 games.

This season he has played a key role, scoring three times in six Premier League appearances, as the Hammers have taken many by surprise with their impressive performances.

Moyes’ team has had a tough streak of games to start the season, but they have added eight points and improved considerably in recent weeks.

After losing their first two games to Newcastle and Arsenal, West Ham beat Wolves and Leicester and drew with Tottenham and Man City.

Moyes underscored how important Antonio was while speaking to talkSPORT after Saturday’s draw with Man City, in which he scored his third of the season.

He said: “It was a great goal. Micky (Antonio) has become very important, a bit like Marko Arnautovic was a couple of years ago when we were here.

“We needed someone to score goals for us and play up front in a way that would get us onto the pitch. Micky can do that because he’s powerful and fast. “
