Despite being an annual tradition at the moment, it looks like we won’t be having a Nintendo Direct presentation this June at the time E3 2020 should have taken place.
The information comes from a new report shared by Venture Beat, who says “Nintendo tells associate developers that it is not going to hold one of its Nintendo Direct video events in June.” After the cancellation of E3 2020, Nintendo had previously said that “it would continue to be flexible and redirect [its] efforts “to keep fans updated in other ways.
Nintendo Direct’s June performances have been broadcast alongside E3 since 2013, and Nintendo performed on stage before that. Venture Beat says that “the complications caused by Japan’s work-at-home order as part of its attempts to mitigate COVID-19” are to blame for breaking this trend.
Nintendo reportedly planned to host a June event as usual, which would have unveiled its first party schedule for 2020, likely showing remastering rumors of Super Mario’s 35th anniversary for the Nintendo Switch. If this report were true, we might have to wait a bit longer before learning about Nintendo’s plans for the rest of the year.
