Watford has announced the appointment of Xisco Muñoz as its new head coach, just one day after firing Vladimir Ivic.

Muñoz was described as “with an attacking philosophy in his training” in the Watford statement confirming the appointment of the 40-year-old Spaniard. A statement on the Hornets website read: “Watford FC is pleased to confirm the appointment of Xisco Muñoz as head coach.

“The 40-year-old Spaniard, with an attacking philosophy in his training, was most recently a coach at Dinamo Tbilisi, where he led the club to a second consecutive Georgian league title in 2020.”

Muñoz, who has been an assistant at Spanish clubs Gimnàstic and Pobla Mafumet, is a former winger who played for various clubs, including Valencia, where he was La Liga and UEFA Cup champion in 2003-04.

Watford confirmed Ivic’s departure from Vicarage Road just hours after his 2-0 championship loss at Huddersfield on Saturday. Watford’s fourth loss of the league season ruined Ivic, and the Hertfordshire club’s ninth manager in five years was the last to leave after a short tenure.

Watford is fifth in the championship table after 20 matches, in their bid for an immediate return to the Premier League.
