A man known as the “King of Sausages” of Russia was killed with a crossbow in a sauna at his home near Moscow.

Intruders broke into the home of 54-year-old Russian meat chief Vladimir Marugov early Monday morning.

They tied him and his partner in the sauna and demanded money before killing him with a crossbow.

The woman managed to escape and call the police, but Mr. Marugov had reportedly been tortured prior to his death.

The intruders had fled when officers arrived, but the crossbow and getaway vehicle were found.

Reports say that an attacker was later arrested.

The Russian Investigation Committee did not name the victim, but the Russian media identified him as Mr. Marugov, who had owned the Ozyorsky Sausages and Meat Empire.

Mr. Marugov had reportedly been involved in a property dispute with his ex-wife, the poet Tatyana Marugova.

His 25-year-old son Alexander was killed in a motorcycle accident last year.

On her Instagram account, Ms Marugova described the murder of her ex-husband as “monstrous”.

“I only ask for prayers for the rest of my husband and son,” she added.
