Virgil van Dijk has hailed Fabinho as Liverpool’s Man of the Match following their 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday.

Two second-half goals from Sadio Mane sealed the three points for the Premier League champions at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Fabinho started alongside Van Dijk at the heart of Liverpool’s defense following the injuries of Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

The Brazilian, who has played a key role for Liverpool as their anchor in midfield, impressed in midfield when he managed to beat the spirited Timo Werner.

And Van Dijk was full of praise for Fabinho’s display at Stamford Bridge.

When asked about Fabinho’s performance against Chelsea after the match, Van Dijk told LFC TV: ‘Outstanding.

I also told him that I think he was the man of the match today.

‘To keep a striker like Werner, don’t let him score, a bit unfortunate with the penalty incident, but overall he was outstanding.

Everybody knows how good it is.

But it also shows that we need everyone.

“We had a bit of bad luck with injuries now, but I hope everyone will come back, it will be a very long season.”
