Donny van de Beek’s £ 40m transfer to Manchester United is a “dream come true” for the Dutch star, says his father.

And Virgil van Dijk has welcomed van de Beek’s move from Ajax to the Premier League, even though he is moving towards Liverpool’s fiercest rivals.

Van de Beek’s father Andre visited Manchester with the midfielder and says it is the “perfect time” to join such a “beautiful club”.

He said, “This is a dream come true. Our local people are very proud.

“It is the perfect time for him to take this step towards such a beautiful club, but Ajax will always remain in our hearts.”

United fought a late offer from Tottenham to reach a £ 40 million deal with Ajax on Sunday and Andre says he just wanted to move to Old Trafford.

“Many clubs were interested, but Donny made this decision himself.”

Van de Beek, 23, has joined van Dijk with the Netherlands team and the Liverpool star says it’s great for his team to have another player in the Premier League.
