Two brothers behind the shooting of a murdered man in their kitchen have been jailed for life.

Michael Rainsford., 20, was shot at his Litherland home last April.

Michael Foy, 22, and James Foy, 19, both of Rossini Street and with gang ties to the Linacre Young Guns were convicted of murder.

Just under an hour before the bricks were thrown at the Foys’ house in Seaforth.

Mr. Rainsford played no role in that incident.

In extraordinary scenes before the judge handed down sentencing this morning, the court was informed that James Foy agreed to have him carry out the shooting.

Judge Dove said the brothers displayed significant premeditation in the murder, including them “cruelly bragging” about their plan on social media.

James Foy was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 28 years.

Michael Foy was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 30 years.

His mother Joyce Smith, 46 Rossini Street, was jailed for 30 months, Uncle Craig Johnson, 39, of Willard Drive in Bootle, received a one-year sentence, and Andrea Saunderson, 48, Rossini Street, received a 18-month sentence, suspended for two years, and a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement. They had been convicted of perverting the course of justice.

Murdered Michael’s father, Michael senior revealed the family’s anguish in a statement he wrote and read aloud by the prosecution.

He said, “We limped like a forever broken family, devoid of the warmth, love, care and support that Michael gave us, which is now gone forever.”
