Despite the economic turmoil caused by the pandemic, Sunak claimed that the UK is ready to drop out of negotiations if a deal cannot be reached. Ahead of his Comprehensive Spending Review next week, the Chancellor also stated that the UK will not be intimidated for bad treatment despite the impacts of the virus. The chancellor warned that if the two parties do not reach an agreement, it will be because the EU did not commit.
With the EU stating that UK officials had failed to engage in the main areas of divergence, Sunak insisted that Brussels has not realized the new British sovereignty.
He said: “The biggest impact on our economy is the coronavirus.
“It’s not at all about making a deal at any price. If we don’t get a deal, why?
“It is because they refuse to commit to some completely reasonable and very transparent principles that we have established from the beginning.
“We are not asking for super special treatment.”
Despite his warning, the chancellor admitted that he hoped a deal would be reached.
The two sides will continue talks next week before the November 30 deadline.
EU officials have claimed that an agreement is 95 percent complete, although the issue of fisheries, state aid and the dispute mechanism still remain.

8.17am update: UK praised for deal’s approach with Canada
On Saturday, it was announced that the UK and Canada will renew the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
However, the two parties will be able to negotiate a new agreement in 2021.
This policy was praised by commentator and expert, Dr. Anna Jerzewska, who said, “I like this approach – sign a continuity agreement and commit to negotiate a suitable one later.”
“It allows you to maintain some kind of continuity, but recognizes that the EU agreement is not necessarily suitable for the purpose of the UK-Canada business relationship.
“More importantly, this removes the January deadline to negotiate a proper FTA. Until it does, the renewal applies.
“Which means that the parties have more time to ensure that the new agreement is exactly what they want it to be.”

“More tax increases and 600 pages of possible EU legal text would hurt us further and slow us down.
“Let’s cut taxes and invest in a great independent future.”
7.21 am update: “We will not accept a deal at any price”
Rishi Sunak has insisted that the UK will not be intimidated in any deal with the EU.
The chancellor also claimed that any breach of an agreement was due to Brussels’ refusal to engage on key issues.
With the talks running out of time, he also insisted that the UK is still prepared to walk away from the talks.
He told The Sunday Times: “The biggest impact on our economy is the coronavirus. It is not at all about making a deal at any cost.
“If we don’t get a deal, why?
“It is because they refuse to commit to some completely reasonable and very transparent principles that we have established from the beginning.
