Freezing conditions similar to those that caused the phenomenon in 2018 are forming, and experts warn we could be hit once again.

Meteorologists have confirmed that sudden stratospheric warming (SSW) is occurring over the Arctic, which is what happened before the Beast from the East three years ago.
When this happens, warming can affect the jet stream that regulates much of the climate in the UK.
If it is heavily discontinued, or even reversed, it means that the British could be affected by the same cold conditions currently north of Scandinavia.
There is a yellow weather warning for the northern parts of the UK from 5am on Wednesday morning until 9pm on Thursday night.
According to the Met Office, there is the “possibility of a period of heavy snowfall in this region,” which has been warned to cause significant travel disruption.
The Met Office also warned of power outages in parts of northern England and Scotland on Thursday due to heavy snowfall.
The Met Office’s long-term forecast predicts “significant snowfall at the boundary between softer and cooler air masses” as we move into February.
The last Siberian weather front to be given the nickname came in 2018 when snow covered much of Britain and temperatures plummeted to -10 ° C.
Weather Office forecaster Craig Snell said: “The stratosphere over the North Pole has warmed up, began its process on January 4, and has been warming rapidly for the past few days.”
Experts say this could mean the country is covered in snow with daytime temperatures plummeting to -5 ° C by the end of the month and into February.
Simon Lee, atmospheric science and weather forecasting researcher at the University of Reading, told The Mirror: “A weakening of the jet stream often occurs after an SSW, which means the UK is now more prone to colder weather shoots from the north and east than it was before.
“A weakened polar vortex can last up to two months, so there is a greater chance of colder, drier weather occurring in Europe sometime in the next 4-6 weeks due to weaker winds from the west Atlantic.” .
WINTER IS COMING
John Hammond of Weathertrending told The Sun Online: “So even though last winter was very mild, there are signs that this winter will be quite different.”
Hammond said: “There are indications that the stratosphere is starting to ‘misbehave’ again this winter, which may have unpredictable and extreme impacts on our climate later this winter.”
Hammond cautioned that not all warming events lead to a Beast from the East, but if it did, then “the probability of a very cold wave of easterly winds would be markedly increased.”
He added: “With this would come the possibility of severe snowfall and extreme cold, last seen after the sudden stratospheric warming event in late winter 2018.”
In addition to the Beast from the East, meteorologists are also tracking La Niña in the Pacific, which could bring wet and stormy weather as it increases the chances of westerly winds in the UK.
Researchers from the Universities of Bristol, Bath and Exeter have predicted a sudden and imminent stratospheric warming over the North Pole, which will have dire consequences for the jet stream and climate in the UK.
Tomorrow there will be snow and ice yellow weather warnings for Scotland and the north of England.
