Homes had to be evacuated and roads and railways were left under water after torrential rains caused flooding in parts of the UK.

A series of flood warnings remain in effect in Scotland, England and Wales after an avalanche of heavy rain on Saturday.

In Wales, images on social media showed a swollen river in Pontypridd after the flood, while the River Towy in Carmarthen completely overflowed.

Malcolm Rees, 54, of Carmarthen, said one of his sheds, which his family had used since the 1930s, had been submerged in water up to a meter deep, adding that floodwaters had left a trace of silt, sediment and sludge.

Mr. Rees, a coracle boat manufacturer, said the river had only entered his property once, in 1987, but in the past two years it had happened three or four times.

The areas in Wales hardest hit by the floods have been Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion, and some houses had to be evacuated, Natural Resources Wales said.

It added that there are believed to be “multiple flooded properties in both the Teifi and Tywi valleys.”

Roads through Carmarthenshire were closed and locals were advised to exercise caution due to ‘lots of surface water’.

The Ceredigion County Council said Saturday that a decision was made to evacuate some houses in the Welsh village of Adpar, and that the residents were transferred to a center in Llandysul.

Between 9 a.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday, Llyn-y-Fan Blaenau in Carmarthenshire had seen the most rain, around 141mm, said Weather Office meteorologist Craig Snell.

The forecasting company had previously said that the average rainfall for the entire month of February in South Wales is 98mm.

In Cumbria, during the same period, 130.2 mm of rain fell at Seathwaite, while at Honister Pass, 125.8 mm.

High Row in the county was the wettest area from 12 noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, with 43mm of rain.

In south-west England, flood water caused disruptions to railways, with trains between Newquay and Par in Cornwall, Hereford in England and Newport in Wales, and Abercynon and Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales were affected.

As of 2 a.m. Sunday, there were 11 flood warnings in England, predicting that floods are imminent, with another 96 alerts issued.

In Wales, 19 flood warnings were issued, while 22 alerts were implemented, mainly in the south of the country.

Meanwhile, in Scotland, a single Weather Office weather advisory was issued for high winds in the northeast, as well as 49 flood warnings and 10 alerts issued by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency.
