Meteorologists predict that blankets of up to 20cm of snow could fall on Scotland in the next few days.

The gusts covered much of southern England last weekend, but the next drifts have been forecast for Scotland, as well as Wales and parts of eastern England, extending into the Cotswolds.

Meanwhile, heavy rains are expected in the southwest of England and there are 37 flood warnings across the country, meaning urgent action is required.

A yellow weather warning for snow is in effect for Scotland today and Friday.

The alert for Wales and parts of England was issued for Saturday.

The warnings tell people to prepare for a travel disruption, that remote areas can become isolated, and that there is also the possibility of power outages.
