Odds are 3-1 for snow in Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool, suggesting that they are more likely to have a white Christmas than cities further south.

Belfast’s snow odds are 4-1, while bookmakers in Coral place London and Bristol at 5-1.

Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead said: “Snow is starting to fall in some parts of the UK on Christmas Eve and now we are really dreaming of a white Christmas.”

“The odds have plummeted across the UK for cities that were snowing on Christmas Day.”

He added: “The looming cold snap has reduced our chances of this winter being the coldest we’ve ever had in pairs. It could be record cold.”

Temperatures are forecast to drop to -4 ° C in northern England and Scotland overnight, with lows of -2 ° C and -3 ° C further south.

‘POTENTIAL FOR SNOW’

Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna told The Sun Online: “There is potential [for snow] During the first hours, certainly between midnight we could have some winter rains that could contain a little snow. “

Mr Petagna said the areas most likely to see a flash of white matter are “the North Yorkshire moors to Lincolnshire, Norfolk and a little into the Scottish Highlands tonight and briefly tomorrow morning.”

He added that temperatures could reach lows of -7 ° C in rural Britain at night, although the day will be a bit warmer for most.

“For most areas, it will be a much better day than what we have seen recently,” Petagna said.

“It’s going to be cold, but if people wrap themselves up if you go out, the temperatures will be between 4 ° C and 6 ° C.”

Snow fell yesterday in parts of the north, including Cumbria, when last minute gifts were delivered.

If it falls again tomorrow, it will be the first white Christmas since 2015, when only a few weather stations recorded snowfall.

The last major bombing was in 2010 during the coldest December in 100 years.
