The quarantine for travelers arriving from the vast majority of UK destinations will be reduced from two weeks to 10 days, along with self-isolation time for positive case contacts.
Meanwhile, thousands of British tourists to the Canary Islands have been affected by new quarantine rules after the Spanish islands were removed from the list of travel brokers on Thursday, sowing confusion and uncertainty in the travel industry. Tour operator Tui said it has about 5,000 UK tourists on the islands, with another 800 traveling on Friday morning.
The reduction in the self-isolation period occurred when the reproduction number, or R-value, of coronavirus transmission in the UK approached 1.
It is now between 0.9 and 1, said the Government Office for Science and the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage). Last week, the R number was between 0.8 and 1.
Victoria confirms 5 new cases of coronavirus
The Australian state of Victoria has said it now has 5 cases of coronavirus, all of which were recorded in its hotel quarantine system.
This comes after citizens living abroad were able to return to the territory as of Monday.
Victoria has gone more than 40 days without community transmission of the virus.

The United States orders 100 million more doses of Moderna vaccine
Pharmaceutical Moderna has confirmed that the US government has chosen to buy another 100 million doses of its vaccine, doubling the country’s pre-existing order.

Deaths from coronavirus in Brazil exceed 180,000
The death toll from Covid-19 in Brazil has now risen to around 180,000, after the country’s Health Ministry reported 646 deaths on Friday.
Health authorities also announced that the total number of infections in the South American country had risen from 53,030 to 6,834,829.
The disease has only claimed more lives in the United States, which is now nearing the grim milestone of 300,000 deaths.

Rapid Covid tests missed 51 percent of cases
Rapid coronavirus tests implemented in Liverpool did not detect more coronavirus cases than they did, according to preliminary data.
A document published by Sage reveals that the Innova lateral flow test did not detect 51 percent of all cases.

Indoor dining in New York City to stop from Monday
