Two shootings that occurred less than a mile away in 48 hours have sparked new law enforcement powers in the area.
Officers in Litherland and Bootle responded to the violent attacks that left several highways cordoned off between Sunday night and Wednesday morning.
The first took place at Thackeray Gardens in Bootle around 11pm on Sunday December 27th.
Three men were standing on a balcony when a gunman opened fire from the street below them.
The gunman escaped in a car after the incident. There were no reports of injuries.
At around 10:30 pm Tuesday night, shots were fired on Harrington Road in Litherland, and neighbors claimed to have heard three shots.

On Wednesday morning, the investigation appeared to focus on a patch of grass and the surrounding trails that run between the homes on Harrington Road and Anderson Road.
Now, as a result of the dangerous attacks, Merseyside Police have implemented a Section 60 warrant in Litherland.
In a statement, a spokesman for the force said: “Officers in Litherland are introducing a Section 60 warrant today after a shooting last night (Tuesday, December 29).
“Investigations continue after the incident, which occurred on Harrington Road at around 10.35pm.
“This follows an earlier shooting at a property in Thackerey Gardens on Sunday, December 27.
“Section 60 will be in effect from 7 pm today (Wednesday, December 30) until 10 am tomorrow (Friday, December 31) and covers the area on the map, bounded by Boundary Rd, Sefton Moss Lane, Poulson Drive , Northumberland Way, Gorsey Lane, Sefton Rd, Hawthorne Rd, Harris Drive, Orrell Rd, and Watts Lane.
“The Order, under S60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act of 1994, gives officers enhanced powers to detain and search people ages 12 to 60 in the area (pictured) and is designed to minimize serious violence in the area. “
Sefton Community Chief Inspector Mike O’Malley said: “We share the community’s concern over two recent firearm incidents in the area, and this is one of the steps we are taking to disrupt those who they would consider bringing guns to our streets.
“Investigations into both incidents continue and we are determined to establish exactly what happened and bring all those responsible to justice. Anyone who is willing to put other people’s lives in danger by carrying and shooting a gun in the heart of our communities is not welcome on Merseyside.
“This Section 60 order was introduced to give us more power to detain people in an effort to prevent further violence, and we welcome any information local residents can provide on where weapons are stored, transported or used.
“Rest assured that we will take action on everything you tell us.
“We regularly patrol Litherland and the surrounding areas, and I hope that the people who live there will welcome the fact that they will see our officers in the force in the coming days, both in uniform and in civilian clothes.
