Two people were seriously injured after an accident that left a car in the front garden of a house in Derbyshire.

The early morning accident occurred on the A444 Cadley Hill Road, in Castle Gresley, near Swadlincote, this morning, Thursday 26 November.

Derbyshire police said they received a call shortly after 2.30am and that police, firefighters and ambulance crews were in attendance.

A vehicle was involved, a black Volkswagen Golf, which crashed into a fence and ended up in the garden of a nearby house.

Three people were taken to the hospital, including a man and a woman who suffered serious injuries, a Derbyshire police spokesman said.

The road was closed all morning while emergency services went to the scene and the cause of the accident was investigated. The incident caused significant rear-end traffic problems all the way back to Gresley on the busy route between Burton and Swadlincote.

It even caused slow traffic on the A38, a driver reported, as motorists tried to find alternate routes during the morning rush hour.

The road did not reopen until after 11 a.m. today. The black Golf was severely damaged in the accident with the front end completely destroyed and the bonnet crashed into the front windshield.

A police spokesman said: “We would like to hear from anyone who has seen the incident, or with CCTV or surveillance camera footage of the area shortly before or after the incident.”

A close neighbor said this morning: “I’ve been here for five and a half years and this road is nothing but a problem. There are always crashes on this road and the roundabout is horrible. I need luck just getting out of my driveway.

“The house is shaking with the trucks. It’s the last two years with the whole new building that has been really bad. The traffic has tripled.

“It’s a 40 mph highway and it should be 30.”

The police spokesman added: “If you have any information that you think may help with our inquiries, please contact us using one of the following methods.”

A spokesperson for the East Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We received a call from the police at 2.34 am on November 26 to Cadley Hill Road in Swadlincote.

“They reported that there had been a traffic collision. We sent a paramedic in a rapid response car and four double-crewed ambulances.

“Three patients were taken to Queen’s Medical Center in double-manned ambulances.”
