Two people were arrested after a dog fatally attacked a 12-day-old baby in Doncaster.
South Yorkshire police said the baby had been seriously injured and died in hospital on Sunday.
A 35-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of grossly negligent homicide, both released on bail while officers’ investigations continue.
In a statement, the force said it was called to an address on Welfare Road in Woodlands, Doncaster, around 3:30 p.m. Sunday after reports that a dog had attacked a child.
He added: “Upon arrival at the property, emergency services discovered that a 12-day-old baby had been bitten by a dog and suffered serious injuries. The boy was taken to the hospital, but sadly died shortly after.
“A 35-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of grossly negligent homicide. They have now been rescued while investigations continue.
“The dog has been removed from management.”
