Two people have been taken to the hospital and one person has been detained tonight as police face serious assault in Barnstaple.

The assault, described as a “very serious incident” by police, took place on Bear Street in Devon town at around 4:20 pm this afternoon.

“Members of the public are asked to avoid the area at this time.”

However, Devon and Cornwall Police modified their statement, clarifying that, in fact, two people were taken to the hospital and one person was arrested at the scene.
