Tragedy when two girls, 10 and 18 months old, are orphaned after losing their ‘completely devoted’ parents in a head-on collision with the ‘drug’ driver

Two girls have been orphaned after their “absolutely devoted” parents were killed in a head-on collision.
Robert Bateman, 36, and his wife Paula, 35, were killed when their Ford Focus collided with an Iveco Daily pickup on the A142 between Chatteris and Mepal in Cambridgeshire.
His daughters Lexi, 10, and Elizabeth, 18 months, were also in the car when it crashed shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday.

Elizabeth suffered minor injuries, while Lexi suffered serious but non-fatal injuries. Both have since been released from the hospital.
Cambridgeshire police said the driver of the truck, a 32-year-old man from Lincoln, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and driving out of shape due to drink or drugs.
He suffered minor injuries and remains in detention.
In a tribute issued through the police, the family of Mr. and Mrs. Bateman, from Manea in Cambridgeshire, described them as “absolutely devoted parents”.

They said: ‘We are completely devastated by this news. Bob and Paula were very dear friends to many and all who knew them will miss them.
They were also absolutely devoted parents.
“Bob was a beloved son and father, while Paula was a beloved daughter, sister and mother.”
Police said Bateman was driving the Ford Focus and his wife was a rear passenger.
