Donald Trump walked out of a press conference after he told an Asian-American journalist to “ask China” when questioned about the coronavirus tests.

CBS reporter Weijia Jiang, who grew up in China until she was two years old, asked the President of the United States “why are you telling me?” before he implied that his previous question was “unpleasant”.

Then, the president seemed to invite another reporter to ask a question while Ms. Jiang was still talking, before selling again and leaving the stage.

Ms. Jiang had asked the President why his administration continued to boast of conducting the majority of Covid-19 testing in the world.

She said, “You have said many times that the United States is doing much better than any other country when it comes to testing.”

CBS reporter Weijia Jiang asked Trump “why are you telling me?”

“Why does that matter? Why is it a global competition for you if Americans continue to lose their lives every day and continue to see more cases every day?”

The press conference took a strange turn when the president replied, “Well, they are losing their lives in all parts of the world.

“And maybe that is a question that they should ask China.”

“Don’t ask me. Ask China that question. OK? When you ask them that question, you can get a very unusual answer.”

Then he tried to answer a question from CNN White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins, before Ms. Jiang said, “Sir, why are you saying that specifically to me? What should I ask China.”

“I’m not specifically telling anyone,” Trump said. “I tell anyone who asks an unpleasant question like that.”

“That is not an unpleasant question,” Jiang replied. “Why does that matter?”

Trump ignored her comment and then tried to skip Ms. Collins’s question trying to go to another journalist, but she reminded him that he had invited her to speak.

“I did it and you didn’t respond,” Trump said. “And now I’m calling the young woman in the back, please.”

“I just want to let my colleague finish, but I can ask you a question,” said Collins.

Trump then ended the press conference and left the stage.
