Darren Bent has urged Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks to join Newcastle in the January transfer window for guaranteed playing time.
First Spurs forward, talking to Football Insider, insists that the 24-year-old needs to play if he wants to go to the European Championship next summer,
Winks He is reportedly ready to push for a move in the new year. That’s if he can’t convince José Mourinho that he deserves a spot in his starting eleven.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Moussa Sissoko have been Mourinho’s preferred midfielder pair so far this season.
And with The athletic informing that Toon Chief Steve Bruce is looking for reinforcements in midfield, Bent believes Winks should consider a move north.
He said Football Insider: “To be fair to (José) Mourinho, I think he is quite honest and fair. I mean, Danny Rose probably wouldn’t agree.
“I think for Harry Winks, I think there will be candidates for him, even in Newcastle. He could go to Newcastle and play, so there will be options for him in January.
“It’s important that he doesn’t waste half a season in and out of the team, not playing well while people like Kalvin Phillips, every week, if he’s in shape, plays. Declan Rice, if he’s fit, play.
“It’s one of them, you can’t afford it, in these years leading up to a big tournament, you can’t afford to waste time.”

Winks back in the mix
Winks admitted in England last week that he was finding the situation at his childhood club “difficult”.
However, he is almost certain to return to the starting team against Ludogorets in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Both Hojbjerg and Sissoko are likely rested, with Giovani Lo Celso and Dele Alli pressing to start in midfield.
