Mourinho moves the posts! Tottenham coach reveals on Instagram that he had to get UEFA delegates to swap their goals after it was revealed that they were 5cm shorter before the Europa League clash against KF Shkendija
José Mourinho came up short on Thursday when he discovered that the goal posts were two inches too low before his Tottenham side’s 3-1 Europa League win over North Macedonia’s KF Shkendija.
The goalkeepers noticed the failure in the warm-up and alerted Mourinho, who said: ‘I’m not a goalkeeper but when I open my arms, I can tell the difference.
‘Goalkeepers live off the goals and they know it. We got the confirmation from the UEFA delegate, who was two inches smaller and demanded that the goals be replaced by goals of the appropriate size.

Both sets of posts were removed by the stadium staff and replaced with different sets of statutory height.
The game was being played at the Tose Proeski Arena, the national stadium, in Skopje because the Shkendija stadium does not meet UEFA requirements.
However, the goals in the national field did not comply with the FIFA regulations.
Shkendija insisted they were unaware of the incident and the Spurs did not charge their opponents with any wrongdoing.
Their rules state that the goal posts must be 8 feet apart, but the original targets were 7 feet 10 inches.
Mourinho, who is 5 feet 9 inches tall, was able to laugh at the incident after the game and joked and shared a photo of him reaching the crossbar on his Instagram page.
He wrote: “I thought I had grown bigger and then I realized that the target was 5 centimeters lower: Shkendija 1-3 @spursofficial.”
The manager also shared a photo of his 6ft1 on goalie Hugo Lloris, who was an unused substitute with Joe Hart making his debut, reaching the post.
Goals from Erik Lamela, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane sealed the victory for Spurs, who will host Maccabi Haifa in the final play-off round on Thursday.

Mourinho also shared a photo of Hugo Lloris, who is 6 feet 1 inch, reaching up to the crossbar.
Speaking of his team’s victory, Mourinho added: “We did enough.”
‘We don’t play great. Just enough. And the players on the bench made the difference, they gave us a different intensity ”.
Spurs host Newcastle in the Premier League on Sunday after beating Southampton 5-2 last weekend.
