Tiger Woods is recovering from surgery for “major injuries” to his lower right leg sustained in a serious car accident in California on Tuesday morning.

The statement also made it clear that Woods was “awake, responsive, and recovering” after the operation.
“Mr. Woods suffered major orthopedic injuries to his right lower limb that were treated during emergency surgery by orthopedic trauma specialists at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, a level 1 trauma center,” said Dr. Mahajan, who also he is the acting executive director of the medical center. .
“Comminuted open fractures involving the upper and lower tibia and fibula bones were stabilized by inserting a rod into the tibia. Additional injuries to the foot and ankle bones were stabilized with a combination of screws and nails.
“Trauma to the muscle and soft tissue of the leg required surgical release of the muscle covering to relieve pressure due to swelling.”
