Thomas Tuchel’s comments raise doubts about Arsenal’s possible role amid Mikel Arteta’s struggles

When Thomas Tuchel was relieved of his duties by Paris Saint-Germain on Christmas Eve, he was inevitably linked with Arsenal.

The Gunners languish in 15th place in the Premier League after 14 games and face a clash fight against the fall.

Mikel Arteta is under increasing pressure in the Emirates dugout ahead of what could prove to be a crucial holiday period.

The German press was quick to report that Tuchel wanted his next challenge to be in the Premier League after leading PSG to the Champions League final last season.

And several Arsenal fans on Twitter gave their approval to Tuchel should Arteta leave.

Tuchel has previously spoken of his admiration for Tottenham

But it’s a different north London club that Tuchel has spoken of his admiration for in the past.

Ahead of Dortmund’s Europa League round of 16 clash against Tottenham in 2016, Tuchel revealed his soft spot for Spurs.

“When I was a child, in my garden, when I played [football] I always was [playing] as a Bundesliga team but there was a game where I played like Tottenham Hotspur because I really liked the name, ”he said.

“I didn’t have a photo and I didn’t know they were playing in London, so playing against them on two legs was very special. What I didn’t know as a child is what I felt today and yesterday, that there are so many, many nice people here.

“The coaching staff and staff in the stadium, the dressing room, the benches, etc. were incredible. Great support and an atmosphere, so many friendly people, they made us feel welcome.

“Thank you very much and good luck to the club.”
