Thomas Partey’s comments on Premier League transfer as Arsenal get closer to goal

Arsenal reportedly made a last-minute attempt to sign Atlético de Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey before the transfer window closed on Monday night.

The Ghanaian international has been a long-term target of the Gunners, but so far the club has been unwilling to pay a lot of money for the star and has chosen to focus on other players.

But with a deal for Lyon’s Houssem Aouar broken over the weekend, Arsenal now appear to have made their move for Partey, and appear willing to pay for his £ 45m release clause.

It’s a transfer that would certainly delight Gunners fans given how influential Partey has been with Diego Simeone at Atlético for the past five seasons.

Thomas Partey could well be set for a deadline to move to Arsenal

And judging from his comments last summer, Partey himself would also be more than happy to join Mikel Arteta’s side.

When asked by ESPN On whether he would consider a move to the Premier League, Partey said: “Right now, I’m happy at my club. But in football, you never know when and where you’ll be next day or year.”

“The Premier League is a good league, it is very competitive and has some of the best players in the world. Hopefully one day. I would like to play there.

“My agents are on it, so I will drop everything for them. For me, I am happy playing football and will continue to play where I am until something comes up to consider.”

The signing of Partey would be a great statement of intent for Arsenal

Mikel Arteta’s gunners have been deprived of title glory for a while, but things could be turning as a new Arsenal team chart a course for success.

While a move last summer never materialized, now may be the right time for Partey to put himself to the test in the Premier League, and all signs seem to be pointing towards a move to North London.

There will now be a race against Arsenal time to see if they can complete the paperwork before the 11pm deadline, but if a deal is completed, Partey could be in line to make his debut after the international break when the Gunners meet. face Manchester City on October 17.
