A couple from ‘SHAKEN’ have recounted their horror after a human torso was found in two suitcases after they reported a ‘man on the prowl’.
Police were called after a member of the public reported a car he was driving suspiciously late near the Forest of Dean on Tuesday night.
Officers found the car, which had been traveling on the A4136 near Coleford, and found two suitcases with human remains inside.
Two people, a woman in her 20s from Birmingham and a man in her 30s from Wolverhampton, were subsequently arrested.
Gemma Greenway, who lives in Coleford, said her husband David had seen a man entering a truck yard near her home and called the police.
The 37-year-old woman, who runs a beauty salon and breeds dogs with her husband, said she was “shaken up.”
She wrote on Facebook: “I am so glad that David saw him acting suspiciously and reported it.”
Police yesterday launched a murder investigation with officers who searched the surroundings of the Dean Forest in Gloucestershire.
Yesterday the police were granted an additional 36 hours to question the two people.
Gloucestershire Police said in a statement that a member of the public had “reported suspicions” to police officers about a car “because of the way they drive.”
He had been traveling on the A4136 near Coleford and officers in the local area were able to locate him before speaking to the two people inside.
Investigative officials believe there is a victim, a woman, and forensic examinations are underway to confirm her identity.
WORKING AROUND THE CLOCK
DCI Principal Investigator John Turner said: “The nature of this incident is distressing and we are working 24 hours to fully understand what happened.”
“Someone’s life has been lost and our priority is to identify the victim and get answers for their family.”
“Searches have been conducted in the surrounding area to gather evidence and, contrary to media reports, no remains have been found as part of these searches.
“Our core crime investigation team is working collaboratively with the West Midlands Police Homicide Team to conduct further investigations.”
The police search focuses on the Stowfield quarry and its surroundings.
There was a large police presence in the area yesterday with the roads to the scene closed and a police helicopter flying overhead.
