The Premier League is considering relegating the ‘rebel’ group, including Aston Villa, reports

Premier League bosses will consider relegating the bottom three, as they are, if a compromise cannot be reached to resume the season.

English football has been on hold since mid-March, with genuine concerns that cannot be met due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

On Monday, there will be a meeting between the 20 high-level bosses, with more talks aimed at clarifying the details of the controversial “project restart” plan.

The Daily Mail reports that clubs are becoming increasingly frustrated with the “self-interest” shown by the teams at the bottom, jeopardizing the resumption of the season.

Aston Villa, Brighton and Watford have publicly pointed out that they are against plans to resume the season, if the games are played in neutral locations, the current plan is more feasible.

Earlier this week, Villa CEO Christian Purslow hinted that he would vote against the current proposal, with Dean Smith’s side losing the home advantage they would have for six of their remaining 10 games.

And the report suggests that if a majority decision cannot be reached, the three teams in the relegation zone, Norwich City, Villa and Bournemouth would be relegated.

This drastic threat is said to be under consideration, and no proposal is likely to have 14 of the 20 votes needed to pass.

Villa is reported to be in a WhatsApp group with the other “rebel” groups to discuss the strategy.

The rebel group has managed to delay the vote on neutral grounds, and the Premier League now has time to think of one more suggestion to the liking of the teams below.

Villa is currently in the bottom three, but he has a game in his relegation rivals, where a victory would see them leave the relegation zone. That would mean that a legal challenge would be likely if they were relegated, but the league chiefs are confident that their case would be weakened if they themselves had refused to play.
