The number of daily coronavirus deaths in hospitals in the UK has risen again to more than 400, bringing the total to more than 27,000.
A total of 425 deaths have been recorded in UK hospitals in the past 24 hours: 350 in England, 50 in Scotland, 16 in Wales and nine in Northern Ireland, the respective health authorities announced.
The total confirmed deaths in UK hospitals has risen to 27,185, and today’s number is a sharp increase from 222 yesterday, though slightly lower than the 453 hospital deaths recorded a week ago on 5 may.
The tragic numbers continue to rise after heartbreaking figures previously revealed that more than 8,300 people had died in English and Welsh care homes late last month after hiring Covid-19.
And new figures released by the Office for National Statistics suggest that the actual death toll in the UK is over 40,000.

As of last night, 1,618 patients were in the hospital with confirmed or suspected Covid-19, 165 more than 1,453 the day before, Sturgeon added, of whom 81 are in intensive care, up from one.
The increase in suspicious cases in hospitals is being studied, Sturgeon added, warning against any “undue concern.”
NHS England said the 350 new deaths raised the national total to 23,709.
Forty-four occurred on May 11, 90 on Sunday, and 44 on Saturday, May 9.
The figures also show that 92 of the new deaths occurred between May 1 and May 8, 76 occurred in April, while the remaining four deaths occurred in March, and the earliest death occurred on March 17. .
Seven of the 350 were under 40, 36 between 40 and 60, and the rest over 60.
Figures released today by NHS England show that April 8 continues to have the highest number of hospital deaths in a single day, with a current total of 887.
In nursing homes, the decline in the number of deaths has been slower, the figures show.
ONS statistician Nick Stripe told the BBC: “Nursing homes (are) showing the slowest decline, unfortunately.
“For the first time I remember, there were more deaths overall in nursing homes than in hospitals that week.”
The highest proportion of Coronavirus deaths were among people ages 80 to 84, with 36.7% of virus-related deaths, according to current ONS figures.
The largest number of Covid-19 deaths was in people 90 years of age and older, with 1,494 deaths.
