The highest number of new coronavirus cases was registered for the second day in Leicester and Leicestershire.

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has updated its daily total of new Covid-19 cases, amounting to 366 in 24 hours across the city and county, surpassing the previous highest daily number of 351 recorded on Wednesday. .

Leicester had the highest number of cases locally with 135 in the past 24 hours, followed by Charnwood with 87.

Those numbers were well above the next closest area, which was Blaby with 33 new infections, Thean Oadby and Wigston with 29.

25 cases were reported in Harborough, 24 in Hinckley, 18 in North West Leicestershire and 15 in Melton.
