The Football Association has said that there will be no immediate changes to the England team following a report that three players attended a party in violation of COVID-19 regulations.
The images were shared by The Sun newspaper, which appeared to show Chelsea footballer Tammy Abraham and fellow footballers Ben Chilwell and Jadon Sancho at a party in London with more than six people on Saturday night.
The party was reportedly thrown as a surprise for Abraham’s 23rd birthday, but he broke the “rule of six.”
People in England are limited to meeting in groups of six or less when they meet people they don’t live with, one of the government’s guidelines designed to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
Abraham told the newspaper: “I came home to a surprise little meeting.
“Although I did not know this was planned, I would like to sincerely apologize for the naivety shown by the organization and attendance at this meeting.
“All I can do now is learn from it, apologize to everyone, and make sure it never happens again.”
The Sun quoted an FA spokesperson as saying: “There will be no changes to the England team at this time.”
The FA confirmed to Sky Sports that it is aware of the alleged incident and is scheduled to issue a team update on Monday night.
The England team will meet this week ahead of a friendly against Wales on Thursday and the Nations League matches against Belgium and Denmark on the following Sunday and Wednesday.
