The Eiffel Tower was evacuated today after an anonymous bomb threat was made to police, which officers later ruled was a hoax.
Police cordoned off the Parisian monument around noon Wednesday after the threat was made, and armed officers were seen blocking roads.
Roads leading to the landmark, in the 7th district of Paris, were closed as people were told to avoid the area.
Police have evacuated and cordoned off the Eiffel Tower in Paris after an anonymous person claimed explosives had been left at the tourist attraction.
But around two hours later, the cordon was lifted after bomb squads found no explosives, leading police to conclude that the call was a hoax.
A source said: ‘There was an evacuation and checks were carried out, and a security perimeter was established.
; This was a routine precaution. The tower is now open as usual.
Videos posted on social media showed police cars at the foot of the tower, with a sign on Twitter: “Perimeter of the Tour Eiffel cordoned off, police operation in progress.”

The so-called ‘Iron Lady’ receives more than six million visitors a year and regularly receives calls related to security, many of which turn out to be hoaxes.
In 2018, perimeter defenses, including bulletproof glass screens, were placed around the monument to protect it against terrorist threats.
Terrorist groups that have threatened him in recent years include Al-Qaeda and Isis.
It has also been attacked by members of the Yellow Vest anti-government movement, which last year set fire to the base of the tower and destroyed perimeter fences.
