MILLIONS of Britons could find out if they had had a coronavirus, as 100% accurate antibody tests will be implemented in two weeks, according to reports.
Testing giant Roche Diagnostics has finally created a kit accurate enough to be used at scale, and the firm says it has enough to supply the NHS with hundreds of thousands each week.

Recent efforts to produce antibody tests have been riddled with inaccurate results, and the government reportedly spent £ 16 million on two million kits from China that failed.
But Roche Diagnostics says its new serology test can detect 100 percent of those who have had the virus “without false negatives.”
‘CRUCIAL TESTS’
The test supports the detection of antibodies in patients who have been exposed to the coronavirus.
And it will be rolled out across the UK in fifteen days, according to Mail Online.
Geoff Twist, Managing Director of Roche Diagnostics UK and Ireland, said: “Reliable antibody testing is the crucial next step in helping us understand the spread of the virus and provide the needed peace of mind to our valued key workers, allowing them to continue providing your life support.
“We will continue to work closely with the NHS, public health agencies and the UK Government to enable the implementation of the test across the UK.”
It is not clear whether someone who has had a coronavirus is immune to the deadly virus.
NON-CLEAR IMMUNITY
One of the government’s top medical advisers said officials do not have enough information on the subject of immunity.
England Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Jenny Harries said on Saturday: “The position of the WHO (World Health Organization) is very similar to what we would have, which basically says that we do not yet have enough information to be very clear on immune status. “
She said signs of immunity could vary from patient to patient, but doctors would expect people to have some immunity about a week and a half after being sick.
Public Health England said it is testing various commercially available antibody tests and will share the results with NHS laboratories and other interested parties to support broader antibody testing capabilities.
It makes Britain one of the most affected countries in the world, with 186,599 positive cases of the virus.
