Hair loss, fatigue and memory loss could be among the list of symptoms that coronavirus survivors feel even months after having the virus, experts have said.
Experts believe that there could be up to 600,000 people in the UK alone who are suffering from the long-term effects of Covid-19, known as Long Covid.
And a group created to help survivors after the virus, which now has 3,000 members from more than 60 countries, has said it has counted 172 symptoms displayed by those suffering from the long-term effects of the virus.
Louise, the creator of Post Covid Syndrome Group, who has not given her last name, told the Daily Mirror: “People are experiencing so many symptoms, we have counted 172.
“The GPs do not believe them, they say they are making it up.
“Employers also have no idea what these people are going through.”
Alisa Gabay, 36, from Hampstead, north London, said she has been battling a terrifying array of side effects, including “brain fog” and “suffocation” several times a night.
“This has brought me to my knees. I have been stuck in bed for seven months,” she told the Daily Mirror.
“Post-Covid fatigue has transformed me from a fit and highly active creative director in her early thirties to an isolated, disabled, and homebound woman living in fear.”
Another survivor, ER nurse, Sophie Evans, 28, spent ten days in the hospital and is still on sick leave with a prolonged Covid, with “no end in sight.”
She said: “Every day is a battle, I am constantly suffering. I thought I was going to die. I don’t know how I’m not dead.
“It breaks my heart to know that there will be more victims during a second peak. It’s a horrible place to be. “
And a report by researchers from King’s College London warned: “There is increasing evidence that some people who have had relatively mild symptoms at home may also have a long-term illness.
“Although we know that long-lasting fatigue can sometimes follow other viral infections, for the most part, detailed information on the mechanisms is lacking.”
