A television news anchor burst into tears live when Joe Biden was declared the next president of the United States.

Van Jones was on CNN with newscaster Anderson Cooper as he read the statement that Donald Trump failed to win a second term in office.

Wiping away the tears, Jones said he wanted his kids to be watching, as being a parent is easier today.

He gave his take on what the past four years had been like under Trump, and at times stopped when his voice broke with emotion.

Jones said that today was a good day for America as he stumbled over his words and spoke from his heart.

Van Jones was visibly moved by the result

He said, “Well, it’s easier to be a parent this morning. It’s easier to be a parent, it’s easier to tell your kids that character matters. It’s important.

“Telling the truth matters, being a good person matters,” she wiped away a tear before adding, “is easier for a lot of people.

“If you are Muslim in this country, you don’t have to worry if the president doesn’t want you here.

“If you are an immigrant, you don’t have to worry if the president will be happy to have your baby taken away from you or to return the dreamers for no reason.”

“It’s a special occasion for a lot of people who have really suffered. You know.

“The ‘I Can’t Breathe’, it wasn’t just George Floyd, it was a lot of people who felt like they couldn’t breathe.

“Every day you wake up, you get these tweets and you go to the store and the people who have been afraid to show their racism have been more unpleasant to you.

“And you worry about your kids, and you worry about your sister, can she get to Walmart and get back to her car without anyone saying anything to her?”

“And you spent a lot of the energy in your life trying to stay calm and it’s been a big problem for us just trying to get some peace and a chance to restart.

Celebrations have broken out in the US.

“The character of the country matters and being a good man matters.

“I just want my kids to see this, it’s easy to do it cheaply and get away with it, but it comes back.

“And it is a good day for this country, I am sorry for the people who lost, for them it is not a good day, but for many people it is a good day.”
