ITV’s Beat The Chasers took a costly hit tonight after one of tonight’s contestants took home a massive £ 100,000 prize.
In the tense episode, Jean Banford, a retired Chester teacher, decided to challenge the five hunters for a chance at the life-changing jackpot.
She was against the intellectual authors of the hunter Paul Sinha, Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Jenny Ryan and Anne Hegerty.
As the clock struck the hour, Bradley Walsh asked Jean and the hunters about a wide range of challenging questions.
At one point, he was unable to answer and passed the question on to the hunters.
In the nail-biting scene, the clock quickly ran out before Bradley could ask the question, and as a result he managed to beat them with just a second left on the clock.
The crowd erupted in applause for the overwhelmed contestant as she hugged Bradley.
“It just shows that the best testing team in the world can be defeated,” added the presenter.
Viewers have since claimed that the episode was one of the best they had ever seen and expressed their happiness that Jean had taken first prize.
“Congratulations to Jean on Beat The Chasers. What a play what a win. You said you wanted to beat The Five Chasers for £ 100,000 and you did it. Well done,” wrote one.
Another addition: “ “Wee jean on beating the hunters, 100 thousand absolutely incredible things you would love to see a little woman earn that kind of money.”
Opening on her inspiring post-show victory, Jean has even revealed her secret review techniques for budding contestants.
Speaking to the Radio Times, he explained that he would read The Chase’s book for only one hour a day.
“I had the Chase book that my husband had bought me for Christmas the year before,” she told the publication.
“I spent it every day for an hour, just to make my brain think quickly. I tried to see things like recent albums that have been released, but that crossed my mind.
“The best advice they gave me was to focus on Bradley, not look at the watch or the hunters. I had no idea he had won, when the ticker tape fell, it was like a scared rabbit.”
