Silver jars and empty liquor bottles scattered on the ground, this was the result of an illegal New Year’s Eve party shut down by the police.

About 40 revelers broke lockdown rules by attending the event at Empress Industrial Estate, in Ince, Wigan, on New Year’s Eve.

People living nearby reported hearing the fireworks before several police cars descended on the industrial estate as the party continued until the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Lighting, DJ equipment, and heaters were seized from a unit at the back of the site. Three fixed penalty notices were issued.

Officers are trying to locate the organizer.

Discarded ‘laughing gas’ cans and plastic bottles were left on the floor of the unit where the party took place.

The unit’s owner, Michael Martin, arrived at the site this afternoon and was shocked to discover the mess left behind.

Martin, a mechanic who runs Midas Motors from two units on the industrial park, said he had no idea who was behind the rave and that people broke in.

Said, “I just came down this morning to have my daughter de-iced and found it like this.

“It seems that people have entered. They probably found it by chance.

“It seems to have been quite controlled.

“With the state of the country right now, everyone is fighting to unite.

“No matter where, it would have happened.”

While Mr. Martin was assessing the damage, one of the disheveled partygoers returned to collect his car.

Outside of the industrial park, which is home to a number of small businesses, the discarded fireworks boxes and empty glass bottles were further proof of the antics of the night before.

Residents who live on Anderton Street told the Manchester evening news The groups of revelers arrived between 7 pm and 8 pm.

“There were a lot of young people,” said one, who asked not to be named.

“There were two guys at the front door who had a chain. They would open the door to let people in and then put the chain back on.

“I saw people running towards a unit in the back.

“There were four police cars that arrived after midnight, then people started getting into taxis.”

Under Level 4 Covid-19 restrictions, people are required by law to stay at home unless they need to leave home, except for a few essential reasons.

People cannot meet with anyone outside their home or bubble of support.

The illegal rave was just one of many examples of people breaking the lockdown rules in Greater Manchester on New Year’s Eve.

GMP officers broke up several house parties.

Police received reports of a major fight after some 30 people attended a party in the city center.

In total, 105 Fixed Penalty Notices (FPN) were issued between 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 7 a.m. today.

Most were given to people attending house parties, the force said.

Deputy Police Chief Chris Sykes said: “We are pleased that the vast majority of people have followed the government’s request to stay indoors and celebrate within their home or bubble of support.”

“It was not the way any of us wanted to enter the New Year, but we are grateful for the public’s support.

“2020 has been a difficult year for everyone in the region, including our hard-working agents and staff. I would like to thank you for rising to the unprecedented challenges we have faced.

“Unfortunately, there were a number of incidents last night that required his continued professionalism.

“I am confident that the majority of our residents, who think correctly, will join me in condemning this irresponsible, life-threatening behavior.

“I urge people to stand firm during what will hopefully be the final months of restrictions. Protect your loved ones, others and our NHS by following government rules.

“If everyone does their part, we can look forward to a brighter year.”
