People were horrified and shocked after an innocent woman was shot in the face.
The attack occurred in broad daylight on Hathersage Road in Huyton when a gunman opened fire around 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Armed police closed the road as paramedics rushed to help the victim, a woman in her 30s, before she was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police confirmed that the woman suffered a wound to her face caused by shotgun pellets, but has now been released from the hospital.
Officials are calling for anyone with information to come forward, as the community was fearful of the attack.
Merseyside police do not believe the woman was the target of the shooting, which has caused concern to those living in the area.
On social media, people spoke about the incident, while many were concerned that crime in the city was “getting worse.”
ECHO reader Barbara Pennock said, “What is the world coming for?”
Kevin Gray added: “This city is getting worse fast.”
On Facebook, another woman said, “This is shocking news. I hope it’s okay.”
Twitter user @Kevdano also said: “What is this world headed for? Absolutely shocking.”
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Smith from our Merseyside Police Firearms Investigation Unit addressed the concerns that people would have about the attack.
In a statement, he said: “We understand and share the disgust and disbelief that community members will feel upon hearing that such an incident has occurred.
“Having a gun fired in a residential area in broad daylight is terrible, but fortunately the injuries to the victim do not appear to be serious.
“However, this will have been a horrible experience and we will be talking to her at the first opportunity we get to find out how she is doing.
“At this initial stage, we are looking to speak to anyone who has seen the incident, or has seen or heard someone acting suspiciously in the area around 3:00 pm.
“He may live locally or have been passing through the area.
“Your information, dash cam or CCTV could be vital in finding out what happened and who was responsible.
