Ever Given ship released from the shore of the Suez Canal
A backlog of more than 300 ships is waiting to pass through the Suez Canal hours after the Ever Given ship was refloated and traffic resumed on one of the world’s most important trade routes.
Some 367 ships were reportedly stuck at each end of the canal when experts boarded the Ever Given on Tuesday to assess the damage and begin an investigation into its grounding.
It comes after the world’s largest shipping company, Maersk, warned that it could take months to resolve the delays and get global supply chains running normally.
“Even as the channel reopens, the ripple effects on global equipment and capacity are significant and the lockdown has already led to a number of new disruptions and delays in global shipping that could take weeks, possibly months, to unravel,” he said. Maersk in a statement. statement on Monday.

Damage to Ever Given could be structural, warns captain
The damage to the Ever Given from its shore connection in the Suez Canal could be structural, a ship captain has warned.
John Konrad, founder and CEO of shipping news website gcaptain.com, said investigators will look for signs of cracks on the vessel.
Said, “Structural integrity is number 1. You know, there was a lot of stress on that ship as it was sinking in the waterway.”
And he added: “They have to check everything to see if there are cracks and particularly that rudder and the propeller in the rear that is connected to the engine room.”
“And then they have to check all the mechanical equipment, make sure they test the engines, all the safety valves, all the equipment, and then determine that it is safe to sail alone or with a tug to the next port.”

The firm also declined to comment on possible causes of the grounding.
Initial reports also suggested that a “blackout” struck the ship, something denied by the ship’s technical manager.
