Bright bouquets of flowers and stuffed animals have been left by the side of the road after a three-year-old girl lost her life.

Teddy bears, a Piglet toy and a small stuffed dog have been tied to a barrier on the A1086 coastal road to mark the loss of the girl.

The tributes were left on the side of the road that runs between Horden and Blackhall in County Durham, the scene of a horrific car and van accident Wednesday afternoon.

The three-year-old girl, who has not yet been named, was traveling in a Peugeot 206 when she collided with a van traveling in the opposite direction.

Although two air ambulances rushed to the scene, as well as several ambulance teams, the young woman’s life could not be saved and she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A 17-year-old girl is also fighting for her life after being seriously injured in the frontal collision.

A total of seven people with major injuries were transferred to three separate hospitals after the accident.

After the boy’s death was announced Thursday, bouquets of flowers and roses were left in his memory near the road.

The moving tributes were left near where police closed the road when a collision investigation was conducted.

The 40-mile-per-hour stretch of road reopened Thursday morning and traffic could be seen passing by the flowers and memories of the road.

The fatal collision occurred around 2.30 p.m. Wednesday when a blue Peugeot 206, traveling from Blackhall Colliery toward Horden, collided with a silver pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction.

The Peugeot driver and other passengers were seriously injured and taken to hospital for treatment.

The driver of the van was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Officers would now like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who has seen vehicles being driven in the area beforehand.

Anyone who can have images of the vehicles on the dash cam must also come forward.

Anyone with information should call Durham Police at 101, citing incident number 207 on September 2.
