Steven Gerrard Says Glen Kamara claims he was racially abused during Rangers’ Europa League loss to Slavia Prague | Football news

Rangers coach Steven Gerrard has said Glen Kamara has claimed he was racially abused by a Slavia Prague player near the end of the Europa League game on Thursday night.

In the final stages of the match, Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo was booked for a late challenge and an additional foul from Connor Goldson sparked some furious clashes between the two sets of players.

Goldson and Slavia center midfielder Ondrej Kudela were booked as a result and Kamara was visibly furious at a comment made by Kudela, which Gerrard hopes will now be the subject of a full UEFA investigation.

“You build relationships in football and I have built a very strong relationship with Glen Kamara. I believe what he says, and other people heard him say,” Gerrard said after the game.

“Now it’s up to UEFA, and I hope he doesn’t hide under the rug. The Slavia player has caused this, and caused it to escalate. Something has to happen quickly that is above me.

“That situation is not normal, why is she covering her mouth to say something? His people are trying to defend him and saying he doesn’t.

“All we can do is hope that UEFA does something about it. I really don’t want to talk about football. I can’t be more proud of my players, the incident has spoiled a good game between two good teams.”

“The players said it never crossed their minds to get off the court. It was important to communicate with Glen, and he wanted to continue.

“It’s very difficult to say what should happen. The only way to eradicate it is for high-level people to do something. It doesn’t make sense what your player has done; we’ll see what happens.”
