Good-natured Steven Gerrard caused quite a stir with a young Celtic fan over the weekend.

The Rangers chief sent a message of support to teenager Daniel Caplan who has an incurable brain tumor.

Family and friends hosted a fundraising game in New Douglas Park on Saturday, where former Celtic boss Frank McAvennie coached one of the teams, and then an evening dinner.

Gerrard sent a video message to the 17-year-old Glasgow boy and then completed it by offering to provide all the water from Angel Revive, where he is a brand ambassador, for the charity game.

Gerrard said: “I want to give a special mention to Daniel. I know you’ve had a hard time lately and have spent some time in the hospital, so I want to send you some love and support.

“I hope you have a nice day. I also want to say how proud I am that Angel Revive is sponsoring the event and providing all the water, which makes me feel great.

“Third, I hope the game went well and that everyone has a fantastic night at the event. All the best.”

A Just Giving page has been created for Caplan as he tries to raise £ 250,000 which would allow the Funding Neuro charity to start experiments to try and find a possible cure. Over £ 90,000 has already been raised.

Caplan is a Celtic fan and has also received messages from Celtic coach Neil Lennon and Scott Brown.

Brown said: “Hi Daniel, just a quick video of me and everyone at Celtic to say that we are always thinking of you. Stay strong and keep fighting, take care ”.

Scotland and Rangers legend Graeme Souness have also gotten involved. He sent a message from Sky Studios wishing Daniel the best and also joked with him for supporting Celtic.

Souness said: “As you can see, I’m at work, well, we call it work, although some people wouldn’t. I know you have had bad news and have some challenges, but be strong and you will reach the end friend.

“On a lighter note, you are a Celtic fan. What are you doing to support them?

“On second thought, it’s a bit easier to be a Celtic fan than a Rangers fan right now. I wish you luck. Perhaps our paths will cross very soon when I am in Scotland. Be strong and keep believing and I’ll see you soon. “
