Mike Ashley’s applause was heard in the London stadium after Newcastle United’s 2-0 win over West Ham.
Her critics may not like it, but the reality is that if Ashley has the mistake at United, something she hasn’t had since her early days in charge, it could benefit Newcastle for the rest of this window.
Ashley thought it would now be United history, but the Middle East consortium’s bid fell through and he’s still the man in charge.
This was Ashley’s first game since a 3-2 FA Cup win at West Brom and her first day out of the Premier League in more than a year.
When asked about Ashley’s applause at the end of the 2-0 win, Bruce said: “Yeah, well. I hope you enjoy it and you deserve to enjoy it too.
“He enjoyed watching his team win, which is what we are all about.
“It helps that at the right time he flexed his muscles and now we’ve seen the benefit from them.”
Ashley watched after two of the club’s summer signings scored vital debut goals in Callum Wilson and Jeff Hendrick.
Bruce thinks the two are a perfect fit this summer.
Bruce added: “Everyone involved in the club felt that at this particular moment, with the great loss that has occurred in all football clubs. We need people who are persevering.”
“People who can play in the Premier League. We all agree that this is the best way forward.
“It’s always one thing when if they have proven quality in the Premier League, then risk is removed.
“How many times have we seen a player from abroad take the time to adjust, get used to the weather or this or that?
“We needed who could start running. Based on West Ham’s testing, I think we were right.”
