Steve Bruce has revealed that he will resist the temptation to send Jacob Murphy on loan for the season.
The Magpies manager felt the £ 10 million winger showed what he can do for the club in a 7-0 win over Morecambe.
And while the display, which featured one goal and one assist, was against lower-league opponents, Bruce feels that Murphy can be an advantage for his team.
Murphy is wanted on loan by Sheffield Wednesday, but teammate Matt Ritchie described the player as “on fire” during the win over the Shrimpers.
When asked if it would be difficult for him to send Murphy to the Championship, Bruce said, “I will not let him on loan!
“Not after a performance like that.
“He deserves to stay with us and has improved tremendously.
“I’ve been very, very happy even though he was not in the team this weekend.
“We have 20 strange players to choose from.
“But at this particular time I’m not going to let Jacob back down.”
The 7-0 win against Morecambe was the club’s record score in competition and the biggest away win since QPR’s 6-0 rout in the Championship.
When asked about the record, Bruce said: “I was delighted with our attitude because we were all very disappointed with the weekend.
“We hit it from the first whistle and it was great to see.”
