Steve Bruce is looking forward to a great week at Newcastle United on the recruiting front.
After holding talks with Scottish international Ryan Fraser, new additions in Callum Wilson and Jamal Lewis could soon follow to give Bruce’s team a very different look in time for the start of the season.
Bruce’s team was beaten 1-0 by Stoke City at St James’ Park on Saturday lunchtime and admitted that he had been forced to play a “patched up” team.
Now Bruce is eager to get some reinforcements through the door.
He said: “Any locker room should have a spark of someone who comes into the team and can help us.”
“Certainly right now we need a little help with the problems we have, even before we start.
“We know what we’re trying to accomplish by trying to get there and hopefully before the window closes we’ll have four or five at the door, which will definitely improve us.”
“With that first Premier League game a week away. Could things look a little different?”
“I’m sure it will be totally different from how we looked today (Saturday).”
Bruce at least got a closer look at Dan Barlaser in the midfield engine room with the 23-year-old playing 82 minutes.
He, speaking to NUFC TV, said: “It was a wonderful opportunity for the young people, (Jacob) Murphy and (Dan) Barlaser in particular, they did not hurt each other.
“There is always something positive.
“You can’t really look at the results right now, the results and the real thing will come out next week.
“So I am pleased that no one has been added to the disabled list, we have too many and some are on international duty.
“It was a patched team to say the least, I think we only got three or four substitutes.”
