Police issued an urgent information call after a newborn baby was found dead in Somerset.

The baby’s body was found by a member of the public in a private garden in the Victoria Quadrant, in the coastal town of Weston-super-Mare.

Avon and Somerset police said they had been called at 8:50 a.m. Saturday and were treating the baby’s death as inexplicable.

The force added that they were “extremely concerned” for the mother’s well-being and asked anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Mike Buck said: “This is a very sad and distressing incident.”

In a public appeal, he asked: “Have you suspected that someone you know is very pregnant but may not have been willing to reveal this? Could that person have a connection to the Victoria Quadrant? Their behavior may have changed in the last 24 years. hours?

“You can contact us with complete confidence. Our priority right now is to find this child’s mother and support her, so do the right thing,” he added.

Amanda Braund from North Somerset Children’s Services said: “I want to make a direct appeal to the mother.

“I can’t imagine what you’re going through, but we want to help you. We have specially trained professionals who can support you and make sure you get the medical care you need.

“Please contact the police by calling 999 or the nearest hospital.”
